LOCATION

PROJECT TIMELINE

2016

Conduct beach surveys in the spring of 2016 following the 2015 T/V Arrow oil release with ECCC oil spill researchers to provide a field demonstration and evaluation of the capabilities of a canine (K9)-SCAT Team in a real-world oiled shoreline situation.

  • Coordinated field logistics and program implementation;
  • Selected accessible segments in Chedabucto Bay based on the probability of surface and subsurface oil remaining from the 1970 and 2015 T/V Arrow spills; segments were also selected that were unlikely to have oil remaining from either year, which were used for “clearance” surveys to understand the speed at which such surveys may be completed.
  • Participated as SCAT Team Member during surveys.
